Where did your engagement session take place?

The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina

If you chose the location, was there any reason you chose that spot in particular?

I chose Biltmore because Meghan is 85% English and loves the English Victorian Era of history. That was the best place to represent her love of that time period.

What about the location did you like?

Biltmore offers so many options for amazing pictures between the house and the views along with the gardens.

How long have you two been together?

1 year

Tell me about the two of you. What makes you two unique, either as a couple or individually?

We’re best friends that truly enjoy each other. We Laugh together, at ourselves, and at each other. We have so many things that we enjoy together, but allow each other to be who we are. We laugh a lot, love each other even more, and enjoy challenging one another. One unique thing that has stuck since we started dating is that when we would say our names Matt & Meghan people would always follow that with ” oh M&M – like the candy”.

Tell me about the proposal. Don’t leave out any details!

First off this has been planned for about 3 months. So my plan was to fly Meghan to Asheville. So I reserved the plane through my flight club, The Knoxville Flyers. So once I made the reservation, the scheduling system sent me an email about the plane reservation. Google took the reservation and put it on my Google Calendar which is shared with Meghan. So, of course, she sees that and asks me what this is? So I had to tell her that I was making a special “Date Day” for us to do something special but I did not tell her anything else. After weeks of asking and trying to steal my phone, she still didn’t know what was really going to happen. So once we got to the airport I told her that we were going flying. My instructor put her in the pilot seat and gave Meghan an intro flight where she basically flew us to Asheville. Once we arrived at the Asheville airport I had a car service waiting to pick us up. The Mercedes drove up and the driver gets out to greet us as we were getting out of the plane. I opened the door of the Mercedes and Meghan saw the champagne and strawberries in the back seat. We were off to Biltmore. Meghan suspected that we were going to Biltmore but did not know what was waiting on her. Once we drove into the Biltmore property I told the driver that once we got to the house we needed to be dropped off at the bottom of the wall, opposite the house, on the front lawn. I then ran around to the other side of the car while the driver let Meghan out of the car. I grabbed her hand and we went walking up the ramps to the top of the wall. As we crested the top of the last ramp she looked to the left and recognized one of our friends standing there. Then she saw her aunt and her dad. She was shocked. All of our family and friends were waiting for us there to see the proposal. My sister handed me the ring box and we got centered for the great shot of the house behind us. I got down on one knee and said, “Meghan, I love you. Will you marry me?” As the tears rolled down her face she excitedly said yes and we kissed for the first time as an engaged couple.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?

Just to be married to my best friend.

How would you describe your engagement shoot? Use as many or as few words as you’d like

The shoot was awesome. We were really happy about everything. I chose Dave because I saw in his portfolio his eye for great shots and that his photos are really an art piece. That’s why I chose Dave. He then impressed us with how easy he was to work with and let our personalities come out. We think the shoot will really show our laughing and enjoying just being with each other. Dave’s personality is really easy going and made us not only feel at ease but we were really just cracking up the whole time. It was a great experience. I could not have picked a better photographer.
